Old Catton still feels like a proper Norfolk village despite being swallowed by the city decades ago. The houses along Church Street, St Faiths Road, and around The Green tend to be older — a mix of Victorian villas, inter-war semis, and some handsome Georgian properties near the parish church of St Margaret. The gardens here are often substantial, with deep plots running back from the road, mature fruit trees (apple and pear are everywhere), well-established hedgerows of privet and beech, and lawns that have been growing for fifty years or more.
